Hope is Pink

Happy 11 11 11 to all Le Rich Couture fans!

Hope is Pink
I want to thank you for the support and positive energy you have given me. It’s been quite a busy few weeks and I have been fortunate to be involved in really fun events. At Le Rich Couture we strive to empower women of all ages and love supporting organizations and events that have the same ideology.

My weekend of fun began with the 4th annual PinkDoor Gala which is a non-profit organization directed by Courtney Cole that helps women survivors of breast cancer become established in their life after cancer.

The theme of the Gala this year was Pink Masquerade in Paris. The decorations were exquisite and guests were dressed in elegant ball gowns and masquerade masks. My choice of gown was a very special signature Le Rich Couture gown. The night was a complete success in raising funds for the organization by great silent auction items from a fur coat to a romantic weekend getaway!

Special thank you to Courtney Cole and Ashlee Lee for making this an incredible night, Oliver Puzon, official photographer of the event, Mely Cruz of Pretty Faces Houston  for providing my hair and makeup, and Sam Li of A Thousand Words Media for the beautiful head shot.

The following morning bright and early, I participated in the first annual Stiletto Stampede in Houston! Stiletto Stampede  is an event whose purpose is to educate women and men or all ages on the risks associated with breast cancer. But this wasn’t just any 100 yard dash! The special requirement was to run 100 yard in heels! I decided to wear my favorite pair of heels which are Leopard print Betsy Johnson heels, animal print leggings and, of course, one of my absolute favorite Le Rich Couture tees.

Nothing but FABULOUS shoes at the race!!!

All these amazing women participated !!!

This event welcomed even gentlemen in heels and there were plenty!!!

The littlest participant. Just like a princess she was escorted by a gentleman(also in heels) and kept losing her shoes!

I have really enjoyed sharing these events with you because I want to show you how there are so many ways we can show support. Personally, these events were not only fun and glamorous but made me realize how important it is for so many women and their families to receive support, not just financial but also emotional support. From personal experience of having a family member affected by breast cancer I know that having a disease is an emotionally draining experience.

Events like Stiletto Stampede and the Pink Door Gala raise awareness by providing educational information, emotional support, funds that go directly to women, and for research.

As I have shared before, my professional background is in research and I have recently started graduate school to pursue a degree in cancer research. It has been a life altering and challenging experience in just the two months I have been in school but I am enjoying it nevertheless. Those nights where I stay up until 3 am studying I will think of these women and remember that I am sacrificing sleep, fun and many comforts for a bigger purpose and that purpose is to give someone hope and possibly a cure one day. Once again, life has inspired me to keep fighting even on those days that are difficult and for that I am thankful.

  1. All women should do self breast exams and annual exams by doctors. Starting at age 50, all women should get a screening mammography every 1-2 years, you can even start at age 40 if you have any family members with cancer, especially breast.

Self breast exams are easily done, look in the mirror with your arms above your head and look for asymmetry, anything that looks non-symmetric should be seen by your doctor.

If you need an annual physical or need to establish a primary care physician, please consider UT Health, located near UH campus. Please call 713-526-4243 and ask for an appointment with UT Physicians Medicine Clinic.
